I create these mixed media pieces with gesso, watercolor and gauche. I start with the background not knowing what characters or stories are going to be told. I focus on color, shapes and atmosphere. After completing a few backgrounds I will sit with them and see what kind of narratives I can “find” in the shapes and colors. I paint the “concrete” portions of the paintings with mainly watercolor.
